As a result of the ICSR and Club de Madrid’s Policy Dialogue, 40 former Presidents and Prime Ministers have just endorsed a new Global Consensus on how to prevent and counter violent extremism.

The document is a call to action, stressing the need for a truly comprehensive response to violent extremism – one that empowers civil society and tackles the underlying causes that allow violent extremism to thrive. (Click here to read it.)

It also contains 10 specific benchmarks against which future efforts to counter violent extremism can be measured. (They can be found here.)

The Global Consensus is a result of months of consultation and debate during which hundreds of experts, civil society activists and political leaders had an opportunity to express their views.

It can now be signed by individuals, groups and organizations, governments and international institutions.

You can add your signature to the Global Consensus here.
