One of the films that was previewed at the Good Pitch event was My Neighbourhood, which has been made by Julia Bacha and Rebekah Wingert-Jabi, already famous for their film Budrus in conjunction with Just Vision.
The film is a documentary that follows the life of a young Palestinian boy named Mohammed El Kurd who is growing up in the neighbourhood of Sheikh Jarrah in East Jerusalem. At the age of 11, Mohammad and his family are required to give up a part of their home to Israeli settlers. Mohammed, his family, and other residents start to peacefully protest against the evictions. With much surprise, they are joined by many Israeli supporters who are shocked to see what is happening. The films shows how the Israeli residents of West Jerusalem develop a strong relationship with Mohammed and his family.
My Neighbourhood seeks to go beyond the sensational headlines that normally dominate discussions on Jerusalem and captures that are voices rarely heard which are of those who striving for a shared future in the city.
