Dr. David Malet, Associate Director of the Melbourne School of Government and author of Foreign Fighters (Oxford University Press, 2013), gave a one hour presentation on the phenomenon of foreign fighters. He spoke about the role of identity and social affiliation in conflicts attracting foreign fighters. He also described successful attempts to reintegrate former fighters into society, including amnesty and job training programs.
